Musical Props-Going Green

The musical is going green. This year, the art club has been helping create the musical props. Rather than going out and buying materials, they have decided to use recycled materials to create them.  The list of items used in the creation of the six animals includes: old towels, used or damaged tents, metal coat hangers and old work boots among many other things.

The idea to have the art club create these came from Debbie Perry who found the idea online. The art club was asked to create two of each of the six animals. The animals include elephants, giraffes, rabbits, turtles, anteaters and snakes.

The students in art club who are helping have spent several weekends now working on creating the props in time for the musical.

“It’s really cool all the hard work the kids have been putting in, it has really paid off, it will be a great show. Also it was really neat to be able to add the art club as part of the musical,” Lyra Pherigo, choir director, said.

The members of the musical cast seem pleased with the results of the art clubs work.

“They really did a good job of being creative and working with what they have,” Sam Davin, sophomore, said.

Not only are the students who participate in art club helping the musical, they enjoy doing it as well.

“It has been a great learning experience,” Ashley Tyson, senior, said.

Those who want to help support both the cast and the art club can buy tickets to see the show. The two performances will be Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in the LHS auditorium.
